Spine surgery has evolved in the past decades. Endoscopic spine surgery started in the late 1990s and early 2000s in Europe and South Korea. Currently, endoscopic spine surgery is gaining popularity among spine surgeons and is spreading throughout the world.
In the beginning it was mainly for herniated disc's and degenerative disc disease. Now, it is possible to treat herniated discs of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Lumbar spine stenosis, some cases of cervical spine stenosis can also be treated.
Even lumbar instabilities can be fixed with the aid of the endoscope, as seen in spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis, by placing percutaneos screws and a cage.
Currently we can treat our patients at Hospital San Antonio, in Chapala and in several hospitals in Guadalajara.
